HOW DO SOLAR BATTERY CYCLES WORK?

Solar battery cycles refer to the process of charging and discharging a solar battery over its operational lifespan. Solar batteries, also known as solar energy storage systems, are used to store the electricity generated by solar panels for use when the sun isn’t shining, such as during the night or on cloudy days. Here’s how the cycle typically works:

  1. Charging (Sunlight to Battery): During the day, when sunlight is available, solar panels generate electricity. This electricity is used to charge the solar battery. The charge controller, a key component of the solar power system, regulates the voltage and current coming from the solar panels going to the battery to avoid overcharging.
  2. Storing Energy: The solar battery stores the electricity generated by the solar panels. This stored energy can be used later when the demand for electricity is high and solar energy production is low.
  3. Discharging (Battery to Appliances): When there is a demand for electricity (such as during the night or when solar energy production is low), the solar battery discharges, providing the stored electricity to power appliances and devices.
  4. Recharging: The cycle repeats as the solar panels continue to generate electricity during the day, and any excess electricity not immediately used is once again used to recharge the battery for later use.

It’s important to note that the number of cycles a solar battery can undergo before its performance degrades significantly is an important consideration when choosing a solar battery system. This is often expressed as the number of charge-discharge cycles the battery can undergo while maintaining a certain level of capacity, typically measured over the battery’s expected lifespan. As with all batteries, the depth of discharge, temperature, and maintenance also affect the overall lifespan and performance of the solar battery.
